How to get an honor star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce founded the Hollywood Walk of Fame, HWOF (Hollywood Walk of Fame) in 1960. The HWOF is located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. It consists of 2,711 stars embedded into the sidewalk along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star is a symbol of someone who contributed to the production of motion pictures, television, radio and theater or other aspects popular culture. The HWOF currently has 1,922 listed living people.
You will need to submit your application to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be considered for membership to the HWOF. Once submitted, your name will be sent to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with the name of your choice is included. This plaque is affixed to a concrete base in front of the designated star.
A current HWOF member can nominate you for a star or if you have made significant contributions in movies, television or radio. The nominations are evaluated by a committee, which then decides whether or not to approve them. If they do approve them, they send a note to the home address of the applicant stating their decision. The second letter is sent to the applicant confirming acceptance of the nomination if the person accepts it. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce charges $25, and then the money is sent to the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Los Angles.
The department issues a check payable the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then sends the check directly to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the artist or organization whose application was accepted. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then pays half of the fee ($12.50).
