How to get a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF) was established in 1960 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The HWOF can be found at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. It has 2,711 stars embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star is a symbol of someone who contributed to the production of motion pictures, television, radio and theater or other aspects popular culture. There are 1,922 individuals currently listed on HWOF.
You will need to submit your application to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be considered for membership to the HWOF. Once submitted, your name will be sent to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you have been approved, you will be given a certificate that shows your name and details, including date of birth, place of residence, occupation, and category. You also receive a bronze plaque with your name engraved on it. This plaque will be attached to a base of concrete in front the designated star.
If a member of the HWOF has nominated you, or if your contributions are significant to films, television, radio or theatre, or any other part of popular culture, you can apply for a Star. A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they do so, they send a message to the applicant's address explaining their decision. If the person accepts the nomination, he/she receives a second letter confirming acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce then sends $25 to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.
