FAQ
How many theaters am I required to make my investment return?
It depends on how many weeks you plan to make your theatrical production.
One theater is sufficient if you intend to screen your film for less time than two weeks.
If you're going to run your film for longer than two weeks, then at least two theaters are needed.
Why are so few independent films ever distributed?
Indie filmmakers are assuming that distributors will be interested in their films.
Because the film is loved by the public, they believe distributors will be interested in it.
However, this is seldom the case. Distributors often benefit from independent filmmakers.
They employ tactics like delaying a movie's release until after awards season has ended.
They also delay the release date for a low-budget film until the summer blockbuster movie season has begun.
Distributors will also attempt to keep movies away from viewers until they have spent hundreds of dollars on popcorn, tickets, or candy.
They don’t want to miss out on these profits.
What is the difference between a producer and a distributor?
A producer creates the movie. A distributor distributes the movie. Producors have the option to sell movies directly to distributors or theaters. Distributors can buy movies from producers. They then sell them to theaters and cable channels or streaming services.
Distributors need to negotiate with theater owners about where their movies will play. This can mean that different theaters may charge different prices for a movie. If you want your movie to be seen by as many people as possible, you should choose a distributor with many theaters.
What happens when my film doesn't perform well at the box office?
Several things could happen if your film performs poorly at the box office.
You might want to change the marketing of your film.
Second, you may decide to rewrite the script.
Third, you may decide to add characters.
You might also decide to delete some characters.
Fifth, you may decide to trim scenes.
Sixth, you may decide that the film isn't worth making.
What percentage of box office profits goes to marketing?
Marketing budgets usually account for anywhere from 20%-40% of a film's budget. Marketing is crucial to any film's success.
Without marketing, nobody will know anything about your film. Without knowing about your film, no one wants to pay to see it.
Why is it called Hollywood?
D.W. Griffith founded the first film industry in California in 1887. It was named for Los Angeles, which was at the time called "Hollywood."
Because it was an exciting area to visit, the name stuck. It was a place that people would travel from all walks of the globe to experience.
Hollywood is still a part of our culture today. We have movies. There are also music videos. Commercials. These are all known as Hollywood.
Is Hollywood larger than Bollywood?
Film producers face the greatest challenge: how to get their movie noticed by the audience.
Problem is, there are many movies competing to people's attention and money. It's hard to stand out among the rest and get noticed.
But what makes a movie successful? What makes an actor or director famous? Or a director? It's not only talent, but also luck. The best actors may be the best, but they will not succeed if they are writing bad scripts.
Two main types exist when it comes down to film: large-budget blockbusters or small independent productions. Producing and distributing blockbuster movies can cost hundreds of millions. These blockbuster movies are usually produced by big studios who want their movies to reach as broad an audience as possible. But these big-budget films tend to appeal mainly to older audiences.
Independent films are smaller-scale productions that may have to be financed individually or by groups of investors. These films focus on niche markets or cater to particular tastes. These films are often less expensive to produce or market. They aren't always more affordable to watch, however. Most indie films are difficult to find.
The question is: Do we really need both types of movies? Do we need big blockbuster movies and small independent ones? Hollywood is more important than Bollywood. Hollywood makes almost twice the number of movies each year than India.

How To
How to get an honor star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 1960 established the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The HWOF is located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. It has 2,711 stars embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents a person who has contributed to television, radio, theatre, music, motion pictures, or any other aspect of popular culture. The HWOF currently lists 1,922 people.
To become a member of the HWOF, you must submit your name to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then submits your name to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you are approved, you will receive a certificate of eligibility that includes your name, date, residence, occupation, category, and other information. A bronze plaque with your personalization is also provided. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.
You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee reviews all the nominations before deciding whether or not they are approved. If they do so, they send a message to the applicant's address explaining their decision. If the person accepts, they will be sent a second letter to confirm their acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce then sends $25 to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.
The department issues an official check payable to Hollywood Chamber of commerce. This check is then sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the applicant or organization. The fee is then paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce at $12.50. The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs receives the remaining half.
After the artist has been awarded his/her star, they are eligible to join the HWOF. To be listed on the HWOF, you must pay the remaining balance owed to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due depends on how many years ago you were first nominated. For example, if you were first nominated in 1990, you would owe $15,000. You would be responsible for $10,000 if you had been nominated previously in 1980.
You will need to contact Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be removed from the HWOF. They will remove your name from this list.
What age is required to become a HWOF star?
When nominated, one must have at least 18-years-old. A person must be present at the time of receiving a star. After receiving a Star, one can still be Nominated for another star after ten Years.
What happens if I die before my star gets put up?
A family member can nominate your name for a star. If no relatives are living, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce may place a memorial stone in front of your star.
Why can't we just choose a different street and not have stars all over?
The HWOF is not meant to be a historical monument. It is intended to honor all those who have made film history possible.
What happened to the stolen stars? The thieves took approximately 1,200 stars. Each star weighs between 250-300 lbs, so if you add up all the weight, that comes out to about 4 tons worth of stars!
