The answer is most likely between 200 and 300. What happens then to the 2,700+ remaining films? Well, most are either made as direct-to-video releases, or they just sit there gathering dust in storage vaults.

Why is Hollywood so famous?
The first film industry was founded in California in 1887 by D.W. Griffith. It was named after Los Angeles, at the time known as Hollywood.
It was an exciting place to visit and the name stuck. People would travel all the way from other countries to see what was happening.
Today, Hollywood is still very much part of our culture. We have movies and television shows, music videos, commercials and so on. We call them all "Hollywood."
What is the difference of a producer and distributor?
A producer creates the movie. The distributor distributes the movie. Distributors and theaters are two options for producers to sell their movies. Distributors buy movies directly from producers. Distributors then sell the movies to theaters, cable networks, and streaming services.
Distributors have to negotiate with theater owners over where their movies should play. This means that certain movies might be more expensive at some theaters than others. You should select a distributor that has multiple theaters if you want your movie seen as much as possible.
