Many stars are from Virginia in the entertainment business. But who are they? We'll talk about Mark Ruffalo as well as Dave Matthews and Jim Morrison. Shirley MacLaine is also included. There are many other things to love about this state's people. Find out more. You might be surprised by the list you find. After all, Virginia is a place rich in culture and history.

Mark Ruffalo

Actor Mark Ruffalo is a Virginia native. He was born in Kenosha Wisconsin. He grew up on Virginia Beach, and then moved to San Diego, California to study acting at Stella Adler Conservatory. He co-founded Orpheus Theatre Company while there and met Kenneth Lonergan. Mark then moved from California to "The Devil's Advocate".

Ruffalo, the star of Dark Waters has been a vocal political commentator. He opposed fracking and has expressed concern over oil companies taking his land. He also doubted the official 9/11 story and was suspicious of the manner in which the World Trade Center building collapsed. He has also voiced opposition to far right nationalism and called for NBC's termination of its hiring of conservative commentators.

Dave Matthews

Dave Matthews, before becoming a Hollywood celebrity, was a successful amateur actor. He began his acting career with small parts on the stages. His big-screen debut was in 2003's film "Where the Red Fern Grows." He went on to co-star with Jeff Daniels in the hit film Because of Winn-Dixie, and he also appeared in the Adam Sandler comedy "The Heat," in which he voiced Pete the Cat.

Dave Matthews, before becoming a prominent band member, was an actor. He started appearing in local plays, and productions, shortly after. His sister was killed in 1994 and her husband took his life. Jane Matthews and Dave Matthews left behind their children. It was up to them and them to raise them. Dave Matthews and Jane Matthews started performing at clubs in 1998. He has collaborated many stars with him, including Mick Jagger and Beyonce.

Jim Morrison

Morrison's home state is, among other reasons, a favorite spot for many celebrities. Mladen Mikulin from Croatia, a sculptor of marble, placed a bronze bust of Morrison on his grave. However, the statue was later vandalized and stolen in 1988. Mikulin created a second bust and a bronze portrait of Morrison later in 2001. They are not currently displayed at the gravesite.

Morrison's childhood home in Alexandria was in Jefferson Park. He attended George Washington High School in Mount Vernon Avenue. Morrison attended the same school where Prince was a rock star. But he transferred to University of California Los Angeles. His father was a rear admiral in Navy and fought in the Gulf of Tonkin in 1964. This incident led to an increase in US involvement in Vietnam. Andrew Morrison was his brother and told his dad that Jim was a voracious shopper who kept over 1,000 books at his basement. Many of these books were donated to local libraries.

Shirley MacLaine

Shirley MacLaine, famous actress from Virginia, has acted in more than seventytwo films. She won 44 awards including an Oscar for "Terms of Endearment". MacLaine continues to appear in films and TV shows and was recently seen in the television series "Downton Abbey." MacLaine played Lady Cora Crawley’s mom, Martha Levinson, in the TV series. MacLaine has a reputation for being able match her wits and the DowagerCountess Grantham, Maggie Smith. She was delighted with her new job and the opportunity to impact American culture.
