FAQ
Why did Hollywood become famous?
The answer was simple. It became famous because they were willing to take risks and do something different. They had the courage to make films that people would remember for years to come.
And they also had the courage to experiment with new ideas.
Why are there so few independent films that get released?
Most indie filmmakers assume that their films will get picked up by distributors.
Because the film is loved by the public, they believe distributors will be interested in it.
This is not often the case. Distributors often benefit from independent filmmakers.
They use tactics such as delaying a film's release date until after awards season has ended.
They may delay the release of a low budget film until after summer blockbuster season begins.
Distributors also try to keep films away from audiences until they've already spent hundreds of dollars on tickets, popcorn, or candy.
They don't want these profits to be lost.
Why don't more filmmakers use crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo?
Crowdfunding platforms are fantastic because they allow you direct contact with potential investors.
But most filmmakers don't think they're qualified to ask for money. They feel they must have someone to speak for them.
And since they haven't proven themselves yet, they don't think anyone should invest in them.
Instead, they spend months working on their project, hoping someone will eventually notice.
Then they realize that they didn't properly prepare for the launch of their campaign.
Instead of receiving thousands of dollars, they receive a few donations.
What is the annual salary of Hollywood?
Production costs on average for a movie are around $100 million. You could make ten movies a month for a decade and still have enough money left to buy a small nation.
You would have your own island, including an airport, a power station, a bank and a post office.
If this sounds like it's not fun, then you might be insane.

How To
How to get a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame
In 1960, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce created the Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF). The HWOF's Los Angeles location is at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It is made up of 2,711 stars that are embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents someone who contributed to motion pictures, television, radio, theater, music, or some aspect of popular culture. The HWOF currently has 1,922 listed living people.
You must first submit your name and address to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to become a member of HWOF. The Hollywood Department of Cultural Affairs then submits your information to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. After being approved, you will be issued a certificate stating your name, date and place of birth. It also includes information about your occupation, occupation and category. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque is affixed to a concrete base in front of the designated star.
You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee reviews all the nominations before deciding whether or not they are approved. If they decide to approve, they write a letter to the address of the applicant explaining their decision. If the person accepts, they will be sent a second letter to confirm their acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce charges $25, and then the money is sent to the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Los Angles.
The department issues a check payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which sends the check to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the applicant or organization. The fee is then paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce at $12.50. The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs gets the rest.
After an artist has received his/her Star, he/she can be eligible for the HWOF. You must pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce the balance due to be included on the HWOF. The amount due depends upon how many years ago your first nomination was. For example, $15,000. Suppose you were first nominated as a nominee in 1990. You'd owe $10,000 if you were previously nominated in 1990.
Contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to get your name removed from the HWOF and to repay any outstanding debts. They will remove your name from this list.
What age is required to become a HWOF star?
When nominated, one must have at least 18-years-old. To receive a coveted star, one must be at least 18 years old. One can still be nominated after receiving a star after ten years.
What happens if I die before my star gets put up?
You can be nominated by your family members to receive a star. If there are no living relatives, then the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place a memorial marker in front of the star.
Why not use a new street, instead of staring at everyone?
The HWOF was not created to be a historical landmark. It is meant as a memorial to all who contributed to the history of film.
What happened to the stars that got stolen? The thieves stole approximately 1,200 stars. Each star weighs approximately 250-300 pounds, which equates to 4 tons of stars.
