How to get a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 1960 established the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The HWOF can be found at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. It has 2,711 stars embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star is a symbol of someone who contributed to the production of motion pictures, television, radio and theater or other aspects popular culture. There are currently 1,922 active individuals on the HWOF.
To become a member of HWOF you will need to submit your name at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. This submits your name then to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you have been approved, you will be given a certificate that shows your name and details, including date of birth, place of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.
You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". The nominations are evaluated by a committee, which then decides whether or not to approve them. If they do, they send a letter to the applicant's home address explaining their decision. The second letter is sent to the applicant confirming acceptance of the nomination if the person accepts it. The applicant then pays $25 to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which forwards the money to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.
The department issues the Hollywood Chamber of commerce a check, payable to it. The check is sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation.
