FAQ

Hollywood became famous because of its fame.

The answer was simple. Because they were willing take risks and do something completely different, it became famous. They were able to make films that would be remembered for many years.

They were also bold enough to try new ideas.

Can I create my own distribution organization?

No. You cannot legally operate a distribution company without being a distributor.

Even though you might not be distribution films for other people, there are still rules.

For example, you can't charge different prices to different theaters. And you can't charge different fees to different customers.

It is also against the law to sell your services or products to other companies.

Why is it that so few independent films are ever released?

Indie filmmakers are assuming that distributors will be interested in their films.

Because they are confident that the public will love their film, they believe distributors would be willing to buy it.

This is not often the case. Distributors often benefit from independent filmmakers.

They may delay a film's release until after the awards season is over.

Or they delay the release date of a low-budget film until after the summer blockbuster season has begun.

Distributors are also trying to keep films off the streets until audiences have already spent hundreds upon thousands of dollars on tickets or popcorn.

They don't want any of those profits to go to waste.

What happens if my film fails to perform at the box offices?

Several things could happen if your film performs poorly at the box office.

First, you might decide to change how you market your film.

You might also decide to modify the script.

Third, you might decide to add new characters.

Fourth, you might decide that some characters should be removed

Fifth, you might decide to cut scenes.

Sixth, and you might decide that it wasn't worthwhile making the film.

How many movies makes Hollywood each year?

Hollywood studios produce about 3,000 films each year. That's right, 3000!

These films are marketed by Hollywood, which spends billions of dollars. They spend millions making them. They spend millions to promote them. But how many do you think actually end up getting released into theaters?

Most likely, the answer is around 200-300. What happens to the 2,700+ additional films? Many of the films are either directly-to-video released or left to collect dust in storage vaults.

However, not all of them are unavoidable. Some of these have been selected to be distributed via Netflix, Amazon Prime or Hulu Plus.

Why don't they get more? They're not available in theaters. Because they're too expensive to produce.

If they were more affordable to produce they would be released into theaters.

I can help. I'll help you find the best way for your film to be released in theaters.

I'll show how to maximize your return-on-investment (ROI) as well as increase your chances for seeing your movie in theatres.

Let's face facts...

It can be challenging to get your film into theaters. The process can be complex and lengthy.

It could also be costly before you even start.

You have a very short window in which to distribute your film.

There is not enough time to wait between the completion of a film and its theatrical release.

How To

How to get a Hollywood Walk of Fame star

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 1960 established the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The HWOF can be found at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. It is composed of 2,711 stars embedded into sidewalks along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents a person who has contributed to television, radio, theatre, music, motion pictures, or any other aspect of popular culture. There are 1,922 individuals currently listed on HWOF.

To become a HWOF member, you need to submit a name to Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. They then submit your details to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. You will also receive a bronze plaque engraved with your name. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.

If you were nominated by an HWOF member, or if there are significant contributions made to the entertainment, film, radio, theatre, and music industries, you may be eligible for a "star" award. A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they decide to approve, they write a letter to the address of the applicant explaining their decision. If the person accepts, they will be sent a second letter to confirm their acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce will then pay $25. This money is forwarded to the Department of Cultural Affairs of Los Angeles.

The department issues a check payable the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then sends the check directly to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the artist or organization whose application was accepted. The fee is then paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce at $12.50. The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs gets the rest.

Once the artist receives his/her star he/she will be eligible to be inducted into the HWOF. You must pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce the balance due to be included on the HWOF. The amount due depends upon how many years ago your first nomination was. You would owe $15,000. If you were first Nominated in 1990, for example. You would be responsible for $10,000 if you had been nominated previously in 1980.

To remove yourself from HWOF, contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. They will help you pay the remaining debt. They will remove the name of your from the list.

How old does one have to get a star on the HWOF?

One needs to be at least 18 years old when being nominated. To receive a Star, one must still be living at the time. A star can be renominated after 10 years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Family members may nominate you to be a star. If there are no living relatives, then the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place a memorial marker in front of the star.

Why can't we just choose a different street and not have stars all over?

The HWOF does not intend to be a historical monument. It honors those who made history through film.

What happened to the stars that got stolen? Around 1,200 stars were taken by the thieves. Each star weighs between 250-300 lbs, so if you add up all the weight, that comes out to about 4 tons worth of stars!
