The answer is probably around 200-300. So what happens to all those other 2,700+ films? The majority of these films are either direct-to video releases or sit in storage.
Some of them may not be seen. Some of them are available for distribution via Netflix and Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus or iTunes, Google Play, and others.

They'd also be cheaper to produce and released in theaters.

How To
How to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 1960 established the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The HWOF can be found at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. It is composed of 2,711 stars embedded into sidewalks along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents a person who has contributed to television, radio, theatre, music, motion pictures, or any other aspect of popular culture. The HWOF currently lists 1,922 people.
To become a member of the HWOF, you must submit your name to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then submits your name to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you have been approved, you will be given a certificate that shows your name and details, including date of birth, place of residence, occupation, and category. You also receive a bronze plaque with your name engraved on it. This plaque will be attached to a base of concrete in front the designated star.
If you were nominated by an HWOF member, or if there are significant contributions made to the entertainment, film, radio, theatre, and music industries, you may be eligible for a "star" award. A committee evaluates all nominations and then decides whether to approve them. If they do approve them, they send a note to the home address of the applicant stating their decision. If the person accepts the nomination, he/she receives a second letter confirming acceptance. The applicant then pays $25 to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which forwards the money to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.
The department issues the Hollywood Chamber of commerce a check, payable to it. The check is sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the applicant or organization. The artist or organization then pays the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce half the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs receives the remaining half.
After the artist has been awarded his/her star, they are eligible to join the HWOF. To be listed on the HWOF, you must pay the remaining balance owed to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due will vary depending on how long ago you were nominated. For example, if you were first nominated in 1990, you would owe $15,000. For example, if your first nomination was in 1990, you would owe $15,000. However, if it had been in 1980, you would owe 10,000.
To remove yourself from HWOF, contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. They will help you pay the remaining debt. They will remove the name of your from the list.
How old do you have to be in order to receive a star on HWOF?
One needs to be at least 18 years old when being nominated. To receive a star, one must be alive at that time. After receiving a star, one may still be nominated again after ten years.
What happens if I die before my star gets put up?
A family member can nominate your name for a star. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place an honorary marker in front of the star if there are no living relatives.
Why not use a new street, instead of staring at everyone?
