The world of Hollywood once seemed like a magic place where the most glamorous people made huge salaries in their studios, and millions of people bought tickets to see their favorite movies. These studios, however, were not so magical. They were ruled by men who constructed them, some of whom were mere feudal overlords. Many of these men started with nothing and built enormous studios. How did they get to be so powerful?

I Surrender Dear, the first feature of the movie mogul, was his first. This film capitalized upon the disc-jockey phenomena in broadcasting. This film laid the foundation for future rock-and -roll musical hits. Katzman also made several other notable movies, including Rock Around the Clock and Two Blondes and a Redhead and Twist Around the Clock.

Lord Arthur Rank

The movie mogul Lord Arthur Rank's life isn't as glamorous as you might think. He did not attend university, worked in mills, and eventually was in charge of a mill at 21. FAQ

How many movies does Hollywood make a year?

The number of films produced by Hollywood studios each year is approximately 3,000. Three thousand!

Hollywood spends billions on advertising for these films. They spend millions producing them. They also spend millions marketing them. But how many end up actually getting seen in the theaters, do you think?

The answer is probably around 200-300. The question is, what happens to all the other 2,700+ films? Well, most are either made as direct-to-video releases, or they just sit there gathering dust in storage vaults.

They are not all destined to be overlooked. Some have been chosen for distribution via Netflix or Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus and iTunes, Google Play and other platforms.

Hence why don't more of these films be released? Why aren’t they being shown in theaters instead? They're too costly to produce.

They'd also be cheaper to produce and released in theaters.

I can help. I'll help you find the best way for your film to be released in theaters.

I will teach you how to increase your return on investment (ROI), as well as increasing your chances of seeing the movie in theaters.

Because let's face it...

Getting your film into theaters can be quite difficult. The process is long, complex and full of legalities.

It can also come at a high cost before you even begin.

Even worse, your window of opportunity to distribute your film is very limited.

There isn't enough time in between the time a movie is finished and when its theatrical run starts.

What are the steps to starting my own distribution company

No. You cannot legally operate a distribution company without being a distributor.

You don't have to distribute films from other people, but you must still follow certain rules.

You cannot charge different prices to different theaters. You cannot also charge different fees to customers.

You also can't sell your services to other companies.

How many theaters will I need to return my investment?

It all depends on the length of your theatrical release.

One theater is sufficient if you intend to screen your film for less time than two weeks.

If your film is going to be screened for more then two weeks, you will need two theaters.

Why is it called Hollywood?

D.W. Griffith created the first movie industry in California in 1887. It was named after its location in Los Angeles, which at the time was known as "Hollywood."

Because it was an exciting area to visit, the name stuck. People would travel all the way from other countries to see what was happening.

Hollywood is still a part of our culture today. We have movies. There are also music videos. Commercials. And we call them all "Hollywood."

What happens if my film fails to perform at the box offices?

Poor box office performance can lead to many complications.

You might first decide to modify the way you market your movie.

You might also decide to modify the script.

Third, it is possible to add additional characters.

You might also decide to delete some characters.

Fifth, you might want to make some cuts.

Sixth, it's possible to decide that the film was too expensive.

Is Hollywood making more from international sales than domestic?

Yes, but not very much. Around 17% of total revenue came from foreign sources in 2017. Domestic revenues made up 83%.

Over half of the world’s population is found in overseas markets.

This means that even those who have never seen a movie at their home, many will still be interested in your movie.

Why isn't there more crowdfunding sites such as Indiegogo and Kickstarter for filmmakers?

Crowdfunding websites are great because you can reach potential investors directly.

Most filmmakers don’t believe they have the right to ask for money. They believe they need another person to verify their claims.

They don't believe anyone should invest in them, as they have not proven their worth yet.

Instead, they spend months working hard on their project in the hope that someone will notice.

Then they realize that they didn't properly prepare for the launch of their campaign.

Instead of thousands of dollar, they get a handful of donations.
