FAQ

Is the Hollywood Walk of Fame a free thing?

Yes! It is not necessary to pay for admission to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. You will need a permit if you wish to take photographs. It costs $15 per person.

If you're planning on visiting the Hollywood Walk of Fame, make sure to bring a valid ID.

If you're under 18, you must be accompanied at all times by someone 21 or older.

You cannot enter the walkway until 10 am.

You cannot leave the walkway once you are inside without paying again.

The walkway is not permitted to be filmed.

It is called Hollywood.

The first film industry was founded in California in 1887 by D.W. Griffith. It was named in honor of its Los Angeles location, known at the time as "Hollywood".

Because it was an exciting area to visit, the name stuck. It attracted people from all over the world to check out what was happening.

Hollywood is an important part of culture today. We have movies, television shows, music videos, commercials, etc. They are all called Hollywood.

What percentage of box office profits goes to marketing?

Marketing budgets often account for 20%-40% of the film's budget. Marketing is crucial to any film's success.

Without effective marketing, no one will be able to find out about your film. People won't pay for it if they don’t know about it.

What is the difference of a producer and distributor?

The movie is made by a producer. A distributor distributes the movie. Distributors and theaters are two options for producers to sell their movies. Distributors purchase movies directly from producers. Then they sell them to theaters, cable channels, or streaming services.

Distributors need to negotiate with theater owners about where their movies will play. This could mean that certain theaters may charge more for a particular movie than others. Distributors should be able to distribute your movie to as many theaters as possible.

How much does Hollywood make per year?

A movie takes around $100 million to create. If you produced ten movies per year for a decade you would have enough money to purchase a small country.

You would have your own island, including an airport, a power station, a bank and a post office.

If you don't find this to be fun, then you are probably insane.

How To

How to get a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce established the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. The HWOF is located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. It is composed of 2,711 stars embedded into sidewalks along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents an individual who contributed to popular culture, such as television, radio or theater. There are currently 1,922 living persons listed on the HWOF.

To become a member of HWOF you will need to submit your name at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. This submits your name then to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. A bronze plaque with your name inscribed on it is also included. This plaque will be attached to a base of concrete in front the designated star.

If you were nominated by an HWOF member, or if there are significant contributions made to the entertainment, film, radio, theatre, and music industries, you may be eligible for a "star" award. A committee evaluates the nominations and decides whether to approve them. If they do, they will send a letter explaining their decision to the applicant at his/her home address. The second letter is sent to the applicant confirming acceptance of the nomination if the person accepts it. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then charges $25 and forwards the money on to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The department issues a check payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which sends the check to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the applicant or organization. The artist or organization then pays the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce half the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs pays the remainder.

After an artist has received his/her Star, he/she can be eligible for the HWOF. You must pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce the balance due to be included on the HWOF. The amount due will depend on when you were first nominated. If you were first nominated for a nomination in 1990, your owe $15,000. However, if you had been previously nominated in 1980, you would owe $10,000.

To remove yourself from HWOF, contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. They will help you pay the remaining debt. They will take care of removing your name from the list permanently.

What age is required to become a HWOF star?

You must be at the least 18 year old to be nominated. To be eligible for a star, you must still be alive. After receiving a stars, one could still be nominated after ten more years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

Nominating you can be done by family members. If there are no living relatives, then the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place a memorial marker in front of the star.

Why can't we just choose a different street and not have stars all over?

The HWOF is not meant to be a historical monument. It is intended to honor all those who have made film history possible.

What happened to the stolen stars? The thieves stole approximately 1,200 stars. Each star weighs approximately 250-300 pounds, which equates to 4 tons of stars.
